Artist Molly Ackerly-Exclusive Interview

By March 15, 2017Exclusive

Where did you get your inspiration for your artwork?

My artwork is inspired by the beauty and power of the female form.  Each piece pays homage to the profound effect that females have on our world.

Have you always wanted to be an artist?

Ever since I was little kid I have loved all kinds of art – music, dance, painting, drawing, and design.  There’s even a photo of me in kindergarten where I’m covered in finger paint and scowling at the camera because my painting “wasn’t ready yet.” I’ve always taken pride in what I create, but it really became therapeutic for me once I started a full-time career in clinical social work.  My art has always been a creative outlet, and now I use it to keep me centered when other parts of my life throw me off balance.

If you could be any animal what would you be and why?

I would be a lioness because they are social, affectionate, and spend most of their time hanging out in the sun.

Describe your perfect Sunday.

Sunday perfection is a sunny bike ride through Venice that ends at the beach surrounded by friends and waves.

What is another hidden skill of yours?

I’m learning how to hula hoop. I just mastered the over the head one-handed spin.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

Either back to Connecticut to visit my family, or Southeast Asia to explore Thailand and Bali.  It’s truly a toss-up…

What is your favorite piece of art?

Bird On Money by Jean-Michel Basquiat. I love to wonder what went on in his head when he created his work.
