Mixologist Jocelyn Jonaneth-Exclusive Interview

What is your favorite cocktail to make?

That’s probably the hardest question ever. Haha. It’s like asking me what my favorite movie is! I just have so many. I think it comes down to whatever drink requires more attention to detail. The more complicated a drink is to make, the more fun it is for me. But if I HAD to chose, it would be this one drink “The Ghost Fire.” I used to make it for a past bar I used to bartend at. It was a handmade mint margarita, which we would then light on fire.

How did you get into mixology?

I love to experiment and discover new pairing of flavors that are unexpected and I also get bored easily. So on down times at an old bar I used to work at, (and I got lucky because I became really good friends with the owners), they encouraged me to play around with ingredients. I quickly discovered I had a knack for it and began to make drinks for customers off the menu. When people would text me when I was off the clock saying customers were requesting my “off the menu” drinks, I loved that and realized this was a passion of mine.

What is your favorite bar in Los Angeles and why?

Here’s another hard question. Haha. I have my favorites in different categories, but if we’re talking just solely for the drinks, I would have to say the Library Bar in Hollywood. It’s tucked away in the hotel and they don’t have a menu. You just walk in and they have all these different fresh organic ingredients, displayed like a garden. You just tell the bartender what flavors you really love and they surprise you with a cocktail tailored specifically for you.

If you had supernatural powers what would they be?

I would be able to fly and also I would be able to connect with people in the most soulful way ever imaginable, so that I could know what their greatest dream is, and help them achieve it.

Whatโ€™s your favorite fruit?

Probably guavas ๐Ÿ™‚

How would your friends describe you in three words?

I used my life line for the answer to this one, my best friend Alyssa. She said: passionate, determined, and inventive. I’ll take it ๐Ÿ™‚

What snack can you not live without?

Does tequila count as a snack? Haha. Oops. If not, then what about tacos? They are small so I think those would count as a snack. With lots of lime, salt, and salsa please.
